Saphir Beaute du Cuir vs. Saphir Medaille d'Or

Saphir's Beaute du Cuir Creme Superfine Cream Polish is designed for closed-pore shoes that are unable to absorb Medaille d'Or's high concentration of waxes and nutrients. The use of Medaille d'Or polishes on shoes with closed pores - a function of the tanning process used to manufacture some leathers - would result in the accumulation of waxes on top of the leather, which could inadvertently rub off on clothing. Once applied, Saphir's SBC Cream Polish will not rub off.

The SBC Cream Polish does not contain turpentine, instead using only mineral spirit to liquefy otherwise hard waxes. Because of the absence of the turpentine found in Saphir's Medaille d'Or polishes, the SBC Cream Polish is not as effective at penetrating leather and providing deep leather nourishment. The cream's formulation also contains water, which the MDO polish does not have, which helps create a lighter cream polish. A lower-concentration of waxes also helps create a lighter cream polish that will not produce buildup on leathers incapable of absorbing such nutrients.

Because of these properties, Saphir Beaute du Cuir Superfine Cream Polish is perfect for shoes with closed pore structures typically found in lower-quality shoes and shinier leathers. For fine shoes crafted using the best leathers, we exclusively recommend the use of Saphir's Medaille d'Or polishes.

If your shoes are dirty (containing black traces) or full of wax deposits from prior shines or lower-quality waxes, it is important to first clean the leather using Saphir Leather Cleaning Soap or Saphir Reno'Mat. Next, we recommend first using the Saphir Renovateur to deeply nourish the leather in order to keep soft and supple. Next, apply the cream polish using either a dauber or chamois. Allow to dry and then buff off using a horsehair brush. Apply up to three coats of polish to achieve desired results and shine.

Polishing Notes

The lower concentration of waxes (vs. Saphir Medaille d'Or polish) and addition of water creates a lighter polish that applies easily to closed-pore leathers without any accumulation or buildup of unabsorbed waxes. The high concentration of pigment vs. ordinary wax polishes allows the cream polish to effectively recolor shoes to renew the finish and conceal scuffs. The cream easily produces a soft shine once buffed.
