How to Fill, Ignite, and Maintain Your Dunhill Turbo Lighter

What You’ll Need:
High-purity butane gas (Dunhill brand recommended)
The brass refill adaptor (included in the retail box)
A clean, stable surface
Optional: soft chamois cloth for polishing
How to Refill Your Turbo Lighter
-
Ensure safety: Make sure the lighter is cool and the safety lock is engaged. Do not refill near open flame or heat.
-
Attach the adaptor: Place the brass adaptor over the nozzle of your butane refill canister.
-
Invert the lighter: Turn the lighter upside down to access the refill valve.
-
Insert and fill: Firmly press the adaptor nozzle into the valve and hold for about 5 seconds. You may hear a brief hiss as the chamber fills.
-
Rest the lighter: After filling, let the lighter rest for at least 10 minutes—ideally 24 hours—before first use. This allows the fuel to stabilize and return to ambient temperature.
Note: Refill only in well-ventilated areas. If your lighter has been unused for 7 days or more, refilling may be required before it lights reliably.
How to Ignite the Turbo Flame
-
Unlock the safety catch by aligning the flame symbol with the dot (see figure 5a in your manual).
-
Flip open the extinguisher cap to expose the burner.
-
Depress the ignition lever to ignite. The flame will activate instantly with a strong jet.
-
Release the lever to extinguish the flame. Always close the cap and re-engage the safety lock after use.
Important: In bright light, the Turbo flame may appear invisible. The flame tip is especially hard to see—use caution.
Ongoing Maintenance and Care
-
Use only high-purity butane. Lower-quality fuel may clog or damage internal components.
-
Clean the nozzle and air vent regularly to prevent dust buildup, which can affect performance.
-
Avoid prolonged use: Do not burn for more than 10 seconds continuously to avoid overheating.
-
Polish the exterior with a soft chamois cloth to maintain the finish. Take extra care with lacquer or highly polished surfaces to avoid scratching.
-
Store in its original box when not in use to protect the finish and mechanism.
-
Remove the flint if the lighter will be unused for extended periods to avoid residue from flint degradation.
Troubleshooting Tips
-
Flame won’t ignite? Ensure the fuel tank is full, the safety catch is unlocked, and the air vent is clear.
-
Weak or inconsistent flame? You may need to refill, or the nozzle may be clogged. Always use Dunhill-branded fuel for best performance.
-
Lighter gets hot? This is normal after continuous use. Let it cool down completely before handling again.
