How to Fill, Ignite, and Maintain Your New Dunhill Lighter

How to Fill, Ignite, and Maintain Your Dunhill Rollagas Lighter

What You’ll Need:

Dunhill butane gas (recommended for purity and performance)

Brass refill adaptor (included with your lighter)

Dunhill Size B flint (red pack)

2.5mm screwdriver (for fine adjustments)

Clean microfiber cloth

How to Refill Your Rollagas Lighter

  1. Ensure room temperature: Allow the lighter and fuel can to reach room temperature before refueling.

  2. Invert the lighter: Turn the lighter upside down on a flat surface.

  3. Remove the filler cap: Turn the filler valve cap a quarter-turn counterclockwise (if your model has one).

  4. Attach the adaptor: Use the brass adaptor on your butane canister nozzle.

  5. Refill: Shake the can and press the nozzle firmly into the valve. Pump 6–8 times or until a slight hiss or mist confirms filling.

  6. Seal it: Reattach the filler cap and allow the lighter to rest 10–15 minutes before lighting.

Note: Overfilling can flood the system. If unused for over 7 days, refilling may be required before relighting.

How to Ignite the Flame

  1. Open the lid.

  2. Roll the striker wheel forward with your thumb to engage the flint and trigger the flame.

  3. To extinguish, simply close the lid—this cuts the gas supply and puts out the flame.

Adjusting the Flame Height

Two methods are available depending on your Rollagas model:

  • Quick Adjust: Use the small knurled wheel located at the back edge of the lighter. Turn up to increase and down to reduce flame.

  • Fine-Tune (with tool): Use a 2.5mm screwdriver to turn the adjustment screw near the base:

    • Counterclockwise = increase flame

    • Clockwise = reduce flame

Ideal flame height: ~1 inch (2.5 cm)

⚠️ Never tamper with the internal burner valve plug—this must only be adjusted by authorized Dunhill specialists.

Replacing the Flint

  1. Open the lid of the lighter.

  2. Slide back the flint chamber cover with a coin or firm tool.

  3. Remove any debris and insert a fresh Dunhill Size B flint.

  4. Close the cover until it clicks back into place.

You can monitor flint wear by noting the movement of the internal metal slide—it shifts as the flint gets shorter.

Bleeding the Tank (Fixing Flickering or Weak Flame)

  1. Set flame adjuster to maximum.

  2. Lay lighter on its side for 1–2 minutes.

  3. Rock it gently with the lid open.

  4. Turn the burner adjustment screw counterclockwise ½ turn to vent any trapped air.

  5. Refill with butane and let it return to room temperature.

  6. Open lid to expel any excess gas.

  7. Reset flame controls to desired height.

If you hear loud hissing, gradually reduce pressure by turning the screw clockwise.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Exterior:

  • Wipe with a soft microfiber cloth regularly.

  • Use silver polish sparingly on silver models.

  • Avoid abrasive cleaners and storing with keys or metal items.

Interior:

  • Use a dry toothbrush to remove flint dust from the striker wheel.

  • For deeper cleaning, lightly dampen the brush with rubbing alcohol.

  • Always clean when cool and unlit.

Safety & Use Warnings

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Do not burn continuously for more than 2 minutes.

  • Store away from heat and direct sunlight.

  • Only use high-quality butane.

  • Do not puncture or incinerate.

  • Never adjust internal valve plugs—leave this to certified technicians.
