Hi, I'm Kirby Allison, founder of The Hanger Project. Today I'm going to be talking to you about our large horsehair shoe polishing brush. This is the largest shoe shine brush we have at The Hanger Project. And if you're just going to own one shoe shine brush, this is really the brush to own.
First of all it has the most generous dimension of all of our brushes. Now the reason that that's important is it just makes it more effortless buff. So one, you have more surface area of your horsehair bristle, the bristle is longer, and so that makes it so that you're less likely to actually miss the shoe and jam the bristle or the brush handle into the shoe itself.
Secondly, the quality of the bristle that we use for our horsehair brush is the highest possible quality that's available. We use only 100 percent tail hair. There is no mane and tail kind of combination in our brushes. Now the reason that that's important is because mane hair is more brittle than tail. And so with our Hanger Project brushes you're just not going to have that huge explosion of bristles and shedding like you do on ordinary brushes.
The second thing that you're going to find is that this brush has a much denser horsehair than normal brushes and that's because we use smaller pin holes and we just pack up to like 20 to 30 percent more horsehair in our brush than what you find with ordinary brushes. And again the reason that that is important is because it's just a more dense horsehair that's going to do a better job kind of buffing that shoe itself.
You know the other question we get is do I need both a dark bristle and a light bristle brush. And the short answer is that yes, you really actually do if you've got a bunch of shoes. You want to use the dark bristle brush for your blacks and dark browns to keep that separate from the brush that you use for your light colored polishes.
The reason is because all shoe shine brushes accumulate polish as you use them. And so you don't want to take a brush that you just used to buff off a black polish and then go to shine a pair of light brown or tan shoes and then end up with streaking you know as that residual polish rubs off on those lighter colored shoes. So most people have two brushes, a dark bristle brush for dark polishes, and a light brush for their lighter polishes.
If you have any questions about shoeshine brushes feel free to ask them in the comments section below. I always get back to those questions myself, or contact customer service. And I'm Kirby Allison, founder of The Hanger Project, and we love helping the well-dressed take care of their clothes.
