In our latest collaboration with Spanish shoemaker Carmina, we have created a pair of beauitful chukka boots made from a unique replica russian reindeer leather. This is an exclusive item only available through Kirby Allison.
J&FJ Baker in Devonshire, who is Britain's only remaining traditional oak bark tannery, has painstakenly reverse-engineered the tanning process for the famous "Russian Reindeer," which was savalged from a merchant ship that sank in 1786. Made from embossed calfskin, this replica Russian reindeer is tanned in pits using a traditional tanning liquor and then hand "stuffed" with birch oil. The result is a very unique leather with a patina and texture very similar to the original 1786 Russian Reindeer.
For this boot, we used Carmina's popular Forest last, which is available in both a standard and EEE wide width. This classic last makes a beautiful Chukka boot that features a rounded toe, regular instep and more room across the forepart. These boots are further enhanced with JR Rendenbach oak bark tanned leather outsoles, for added durability.
This casual style is the perfect match for a pair of raw denim, khaki chino, or even a heavy charcoal flannel.
The below models are in-stock and available for immediate delivery. If you do not see your size, please inquire with Customer Service, as we are considering having an additional set commissioned.
