How to Condition a Leather Bag

We’re excited to show you how easy it is to condition a leather bag. A quality leather briefcase can have a good long-life if you treat it properly. Just like with leather shoes it’s important to condition your leather briefcase. We’re going to show you how to use two products available from Saphir to condition and rejuvenate your leather briefcase.

Step 1: Apply Saphir Leather Lotion to Condition a Leather Bag

We really want to deeply nourish and condition this leather so apply a small dollop of the Saphir leather lotion onto our chamois and rub this into the leather. Use small circular movements and firm pressure to work the lotion into the leather. Massage the conditioner over the entire surface of the briefcase and then wipe off any excess with the cotton chamois. Allow the leather lotion 15 – 20 minutes to dry and be absorbed into the leather. Then, buff it off using a large horsehair brush. You can use a cotton chamois with a little water to buff the rest of that wax to a shine.

Step 2: Apply Saphir Canadian Restorative Cream to seal Saphir Leather Lotion

Second and for additional nourishment apply the Saphir Canadian restorative cream polish. Now, this polish has been designed specifically for large leather goods. You don’t have to worry about any of the polish or pigments rubbing off onto your clothing.

Apply this the same way you did the leather lotion with a cotton chamois. Using small circular motions and medium to firm pressure. Allow it 15 – 20 minutes to be fully absorbed by the leather and dry. After it’s dried, buff off using a horsehair brush and a cotton chamois with a little bit of water if necessary. We’re just using a neutral to keep the original patina of this bag, however, the Canadian cream polish is available in different colors. If you’d like to introduce some color to fix any scuffing or scratching, this is a great time to do it.
